Join us for Rhythm & Rhyme: A Celebration of Liberty, a special evening of spoken word poetry and music in celebration of Juneteenth. Classically trained soprano, Brandi Hancock, will act as host for the event. Brandi has been a guest soloist for the North Carolina Symphony and Durham Symphony, earning her B.A. in Music-Vocal Performance and Theatre Directing from Shaw University in Raleigh, NC.

Featured Artist

Christopher Massenburg, better known as Dasan Ahanu, co-founder and managing director of Black Poetry Theatre in Durham, founding member and coach of Durham’s Bull City Slam Team, and 2023 Piedmont Poet Laureate. Dasan was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina and has competed in the Southern Fried Southeastern Regional Poetry Slam and the National Poetry Slam.

Debrita Callaway, also known as “Wild Perfection,” is a passionate actress, compelling author and engaging poet. This Raleigh native and has been a mainstay in the NC poetry community for years, headlining slams and open mics throughout the triangle.

Genesis Boggs is a 21 year old Pop/RnB artist from Orange County, VA. She first got into music at age 16 after being given a studio session for her birthday, where she fell in love. She draws inspiration from legends such as Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys and has been praised for her timeless and wholesome sound.

Based out of Raleigh-Durham, NC, NiiTO is comprised of brothers Aarik and Josh Duncan. Joined by AJ and VJ, NiiTO has blended influences from a variety of musical genres over the last several years, crafting a unique sound while at the same time taking notice and becoming more in tune with not only themselves, but the people of this wonderful world in which we live, work and play. NiiTO's ability to blend genres has given them, and us, a unique sound that blurs the lines between R & B, Pop, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Blues and more.
