79.5

Short 79.5 bio: Named after an imaginary radio station, 79.5 was started in 2010 by Kate Mattison. Joined by singer and rapper Lola Adanna + sax player/flautist Izaak Mills and with drummer Caito Sanchez (Charles Bradley, Lee Fields) and bassist Andrew Raposo (Midnight Magic, Hess Is More) rounding out the rhythm section, the sound of 79.5 is full-bodied and straight from the heart—recalling the thrilling work of Patrice Rushen as well as the type of dance music that’s been the beating heart of New York City for eons. With only a self released 12” in circulation, 79.5 was written up in The New Yorker twice based on the eminence of their live sets alone. In 2016, the band  released the now classic 45, “Terrorize My Heart (Disco Dub)” a staple in DJ sets, getting spins from Gilles Peterson, Q-Tip, Just Blaze and Natasha Diggs. In February 2021, Questlove added the Mattison-penned track to his 100 Essential Songs You Should Know playlist, which includes legendary musicians Sade, CHIC, Patrice Rushen, and Prince.

LOVETEMPO

Irresistibly danceable, lovetempo is the new project from Brooklyn-based musician, producer, and singer Mattie Safer (The Rapture, Poolside).  Featuring Safer’s soft, sultry vocals and sophisti-pop sensibilities over a hypnotic blend of jazz-funk, disco, latin percussion, and house music, lovetempo’s unique brand of lonelyhearts disco is guaranteed to move you, body and soul. Their debut track, “Turnaround” was released in December as part of influential dance juggernaut Razor-N-Tape's 'Family Affair Vol. 2' compilation, with their eponymous debut to follow in the spring.

Mattie Safer is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who cut his teeth in the New York City indie scene as a bassist, keyboardist, and vocalist with genre-bending dance-rock pioneers The Rapture. Their debut album Echoes (Pitchfork’s album of the year in 2003) set the world alight and introduced dance music to uptight indie kids across the world, selling and streaming millions of records and touring extensively across the world. Currently singing and playing bass with daytime disco progenitors Poolside, Safer has collaborated with industry heavyweights such as James Murphy, Paul Epworth, Timbaland, Danger Mouse, and more.

AJAY

Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, AJAY, encompasses the vast, experimental nature of modern sound design with the soul-drenched ingredients that defined Philadelphia for decades. The self-produced artist’s vulnerable falsetto vocals bring the nostalgia of 60s and 70s R&B into a new era of existential lyricism. While acting as touring guitarist/bassist to Alternative R&B artist, Orion Sun, as well as performing with local supergroup, Omar’s Hat, AJAY has been able to create and expand upon his own unique perspective.
