Join Peabody-Award winning journalist, Lulu Miller, for a variety show of sorts. Fiction! Nonfiction! Never-before-heard audio tape! Musical performances from the spellbinding indie-pop goddess, Aby Wolf!
Miller is the co-founder of NPR's Invisibilia, one of the founding producer's of Radiolab, and a writer working across the genres. (Her sister recently called her a "genre-nonconforming narrative slut," and she thinks she might stick with that). Her written work has been published in The New Yorker, Virginia Quarterly Review, Electric Literature, among other places. And her forthcoming book, Why Fish Don't Exist, will be published by Simon and Schuster in 2019.
What's this evening all about? Mental Health! May 4th is the first Friday of Mental Health Awareness Month, and to kick off everybody's favorite month, Miller will be discussing the hazards and gifts of working with that most precious substance -- people's emotional pain. But it won't all be darkness. This evening is about shining light on the dark, about playing in the dark, about sharing, because what else can ya do? At the end of the program, Miller will be joined by MPR News' own Tom Weber to discuss the intentionality around her work and her upcoming projects.
