Starting as a lighthearted studio radiobroadcast in 1933 the iconic American entertainment sensation remains in Wheeling, West Virginia. The name of the Jamboree in Wheeling has had several variations during its Eight-decade existence to reflect the marketing efforts of the various owners; Country Music industry folks have always referred to it as the Wheeling Jamboree. On April 15, the Jamboree will return to Wheeling’s Capitol Theatre where the show first took place as one of the nation’s early Barn Dance Radio Stage Shows. The Jamboree has been presented at over 20 different Venues in the greater Wheeling area and the landmark Capitol Theater is its most widely recognized. On April 15th a Jamboree show is timed to Celebrate the 84th Anniversary of its “first run” at the Capitol along with the shows “Patriarch”, Country Music Veteran Darnell Miller who Celebrates 50 years as a member of the Jamboree this year. A variety of Jamboree Artist Members are appearing on this special event. Performers will include members of the Wheeling Park High School Bluegrass Band along with other special entertainers. The re-branding of the Jamboree and transition of producers took place over a period of 120 weeks starting in early 2006 and would not have been possible without numerous dedicated volunteers, countless entertainers and supporters. Most notably, Brad Paisley who spent his formative years as a regular on the Saturday night Jamboree and his Father Doug Paisley who served on the board of directors of the current Non-Profit Company overseeing the transition from then “Jamboree USA” at the Capitol. Future show dates at the Capitol are in the works as the Jamboree's Multi-Purpose Museum building at 944 Main Street (Former Eagles Building) undergoes renovations. The show will be broadcast, live on the new radio home of the Jamboree WWOV 101.1 FM.
