Gabbo is the bedroom pop project of 22-year-old DC based artist Gabrielle (Gabbo) Franks. Franks grew up in the "unfortunate rural suburbs" of Salisbury, MD where she began playing music in second grade after having a dream about Zac Efron. Following the dream, Franks proceeded to write a song about it and “made all of her classmates listen to her sing it on the playground during recess.”
Franks’ lyrics are informed by their relationships, identity, and childhood, and these themes are explored across the whole of her 2021 debut self-titled Gabbo EP. The EP’s lead single, “Sweetgreen”, is a love song for a salad chain: Franks explains, “The song is basically my take on the whole 'manifesting...' meme. While I was struggling for months to tell Owen that I Had A Crush On Him, he was randomly DMing me on Snapchat to send me the new Lana Del Ray record.”
The Gabbo EP will mark the debut release on Honeycut Records, formed by Salty Artist Management’s Chris Crowley and Andrew Baker, whose combined management rosters include artists like Mitski, Beach Bunny, Slow Pulp, and more. The EP was mixed by Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr in Chicago, IL.
