The NowHere Band (pronounced "nowhere") is collection of musicians and friends who gather a couple times a year to recreate the experience of hearing the Beatles' music performed in a live setting. Unlike other ongoing Beatles "tribute bands" the NowHere Band, there is no attempt for anyone to be a particular Beatle (no one is designated as "Paul, John, George, or Ringo"). Instead, the vocal duties and instrumental duties are separated, thus creating an 8-piece ensemble. In addition to the vocals, guitars, keys, bass, and drums there are 3 strings (cello, viola, and violin) and 5 horns (trumpet, sax, clarinet, and trombone), and (when necessary) harp, tabla, and sitar. Nearly all of the music that the Beatles recorded after 1966 was never performed by them live. The NowHere Band attempts to recreate the "what if" the Beatles ever got to reunite or perform their music live with all the bells and whistles.
The NowHere band first debuted in November of 2002 at a Kaosmosis warehouse party, and has played sporadically throughout the years since then. Most notably, for the last 11 years the band has performed the White Album each year in early December (The White Album Xmas). In 2017 and 2018 they performed Sgt Pepper / Endless Summer of Love shows (which included an entire set of misc late-1960's bands). The band also performed The Who's Tommy in 2015. This year the band is excited to perform Abbey Road (an album that will be preceded by a set of misc Beatles favorites curated by the band).
The nucleus of the project has also performed many kinds of music under different names, mostly one-offs. The concept of the "band for one night" (hence "Now Here" and such) is the brainchild of band leader and vocalist John Averill, who together with keyboardist Carl Tietze (aka Solovox) have been pulling off musical shenanigans for 20 years, from the dirt of Burning Man to accompanying ballets in performing arts centers, and numerous barns, clubs and warehouses in-between. The other core members of the NowHere Band have each been in the project anywhere from 15-17 years, including Sarah King (vocals) Jason Wells (vocals and guitar), Ryan Moore (drums), Arthur Parker (bass), Chet Lyster (guitar), and David Langenes (guitar).
The band is a true family of friends who love to play together, and when it comes to performing the Beatles' music (which they consider an honor), the modus operandi is "accuracy with feeling."
