The Goons are a hardcore/punk band from the Washington, D.C. area that distinguished themselves in the local scene by blasting high-octane, aggressive, “mohican-kid speed-rock.” Released in 1996 their debut full length, “Living in America,” co-produced by Kent Stax (Scream, Suspects) and Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Bad Religion) was called a “ravenous punk onslaught” by Suburban Voice. The album earned the band comparisons to The Dead Kennedys, New Bomb Turks, and Keith Morris-era Black Flag. They built a loyal underground following by performing relentlessly up and down the East Coast before embarking on several national tours, including Warped Tour 2004. In total, The Goons released a total of four full length recordings.
Frustrated? Sick of your job? Don't fit in and don't want to? The Goons are your soundtrack. The Goons are your people. Shave your head. Steal from your job. Waste time with your friends trying to make something. “Live at The Black Cat,” fifteen songs recorded live to sixteen tracks then mixed down in studio, documents the band’s explosive set recorded on February 23, 2000. It captures perfectly the
high-energy performance of the band as well as the intensity of the crowd. Songs such as: “Nation in Distress,” “Storm Troopers of Good Faith,” and “American Hates Its Youth” encapsulate their timely and insightful reactions to living in the politically charged D.C. area. The Goons return to The Black Cat to celebrate the release—on DCxPC Live—of the 12” pressing of the recording.

Paul "HR" Hudson was born in Liverpool, England, in 1956, to a Jamaican mother and American father who moved him to the States when he was a toddler. As his father was in the Air Force, his family moved around a lot, finally settling just outside of Washington, DC. In addition to his love for music, HR was an athlete from an early age and excelled in swimming and pole vaulting.
HR is best known as the front man for the iconic punk band Bad Brains. HR and his brother, Earl, together with friends Gary "Dr. Know" Miller and Darryl Jenifer, began as Mind Power, a jazz fusion band, then formed Bad Brains in 1977. With unprecedented speed and precision, Bad Brains took the Washington, DC music scene by storm and quickly became the most influential band in American punk history. They created music that was about closing the racial divide and maintaining a positive mental attitude (PMA). This concept of PMA continues to inspire fans to this day.
Early in his career, HR became interested in reggae and the Rastafarian movement. These pursuits transformed him and he began to focus more on the spiritual nature of reggae than the fast lifestyle of the punk scene. Together with Al "Judah" Walker, he formed the short-lived group called Zion Train. He then moved on and formed Human Rights with his brother in 1984.
