Peter Holsapple & Chris Stamey present their 2020 Our Back Pages album, new takes on fave dB's songs, live in North Carolina for the first time. For this special show, they will be joined by lauded producer Don Dixon, who will both open the show with a set of his own and play bass with the duo.
Holsapple and Stamey are known not only for their tenure in the dB’s in the 80s but also for a myriad of studio and live appearances with a cross-section of essential American hand-made music (R.E.M., Alejandro Escovedo, Hootie & the Blowfish, Whiskeytown, Big Star's Third, many more).
“We’re still proud of the electric versions of [these dB’s classics],” Stamey insists, “but a sturdy song should be able to handle a bit of reinvention from time to time, and it was fun to get under the hood and see what was there, even without the charm and power of Will Rigby’s explosive drums and Gene Holder’s nimble bass runs. In most cases, it’s a trip back . . . to the songs’ origins, on acoustic guitars in apartments or hotels.”
Peter adds, “These stripped-down versions add credence to our belief that a truly good song can stand up without a lot of bells and whistles.”
Holsapple and Stamey will be inducted into the RJ Reynolds Arts Hall of Fame on March 30.
