Celebrate the Yuletide season with the Andrews Sisters!

Yuletide Swing is a holiday themed concert act presenting the music of Minnesota’s own Andrews Sisters with a trio of engaging, close-harmony singers who are among the Twin Cities’ finest (Lisa Pallen, Aimee Fischer Lee and Kathy Mueller) accompanied by a 7-piece band. The music is classic Big Band vocal swing music, an original American style that finds a new, young audience whenever it is performed. The music builds bridges between people of every age and ethnicity with infectious rhythm and hummable tunes. The Andrews Sisters chose songs from many different ethnic traditions and embody a musical “melting pot” of American music culture. Their music connects the rich heritage of popular music from America’s past and present, and is no less fun and energetic today than when it was recorded and performed. The song list includes contemporary songs set in the Andrews Sisters inimitable style.
How successful were these three sisters from Minnesota? They scored more Top Ten hits than either Elvis Presley or The Beatles. It’s estimated that they have sold more than 100 million recordings, and it was not until the mid 1970’s that their album sales were surpassed by The Beatles.
Because the Andrews Sisters grew up in NE Minneapolis and Mound, MN they carried the values instilled in their upbringing to their musical art. Born of a Greek immigrant father and Norwegian-American mother, even their ethnicity was a blending of culture. Long after they had become stars of American popular music, they held their childhood as Minnesotans in high esteem and continued to visit their family home at their favorite of all places, Lake Minnetonka. All of the performers of Sisters of Swing are artists residing in the Twin Cities’ area.

Lisa Pallen (Bella Diva, The R Factor), Aimee Lee (The R Factor, Tex Pistols) and Kathy Mueller (Women Who Cook).

Bill Arnold, host of Sisters of Swing, is a familiar face to Twin Citians as one of the creators of Triple Espresso. He brings humor, magic and reminiscences to the stage with engaging stories of the Andrews Sisters and America in the 1930’s and 40’s.

Raymond Berg, arranger and creator of Sisters of Swing, is well known in the Twin Cities’ theater scene. He is the recipient of two Ivey Awards (2007-Love, Janis at the Ordway McKnight and 2012-Urinetown at the Jungle Theatre). For the past 30 years his work has been seen and heard on stages around Minneapolis-St. Paul and across the country.

The Sisters of Swing backup band is a high energy outfit with drums, bass, piano, guitar, trumpet, trombone, clarinet and tenor sax. The players are local professionals with credits in the worlds of dance bands and musical theater.
