In the 1970s, Tammy Faye Bakker and her husband, Jim, rose from humble beginnings to create the world's largest religious broadcasting network (it even had its own theme park), TBN. Tammy Faye herself became a new kind of American icon, legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, financial improprieties, scheming rivals and a cluster of scandals around Jim soon threaten to topple their carefully constructed empire.
Based on the 2000 documentary of the same name and adapted by comedian-director Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer, The Big Sick, Stella), this new version of The Eyes of Tammy Faye stars Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain (winner of the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival's Tribute Award) in an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of a televangelist unlike any before or since.
