Celebrate Juneteenth like Portland’s never done it before! Local legends saxophonist Eldon “T” Jones and singer LaRhonda Steele will share the stage to evoke the joy of emancipation. The whole African-American songbook is open for this concert, so plan to be surprised!
A World Arts Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Eldon “T” Jones and his heartfelt saxophone playing captivate audiences at jazz clubs and churches throughout Portland. His 2021 single “T’s Jam” peaked at #54 in its 16-week run on the Smooth Jazz Network Top 100 and hit #4 on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Most Added chart. Eldon contributed the song “Love Will Find a Way” to the Bespeak Love collaboration, which reached #1 on the UK Soul Chart in 2015.
LaRhonda Steele, a Blues and gospel singer and songwriter, is recognized as one of the region's best rhythm and blues vocalists. She has been dubbed “The First Lady of Portland Blues”—a title of leadership that she lives up to as she shares songs that carry forth directly from her soul and spiritual life force. She currently leads the LaRhonda Steele band, the Portland Interfaith Gospel Choir, and Portland Center for Spiritual Living. LaRhonda’s voice can be enjoyed on recordings of Gino Vannelli, Curtis Salgado, Lloyd Jones, Mary Flower, and Norman Sylvester to name a few.
