In this class, textile artist and natural dyeing instructor Kristin Arzt will introduce you to the beautiful art of bundle dyeing with plants! Gain an understanding of how to work with natural dyes as you explore and practice this process using fresh and dried flowers, turmeric, onion skins, eucalyptus, and more! You'll have a chance to try the bundle dyeing process on a few different types of fabric, including silk, wool, and cotton. Each student will learn how to prepare their fabric, place the dyestuffs, wrap the fabric, and steam the bundle on a stovetop. Curious how a certain plant or flower may look when bundle-dyed? Bring it in and try it!! Each student will leave with their own batch of bundle-dyed fabric samples (4-5), one bundle-dyed pillow case, and two bundle-dyed silk scarves.
None. All fabric, plants, and other necessary materials will be provided. You are welcome (and encouraged) to bring in your own plants to try dyeing with, but it is not required.
Kristin Arzt uses natural dyes and textile arts to explore her relationship with plants and make unique quilts. She has studied textiles everywhere from Oaxaca to Australia. She is a proud dog momma and loves to go camping whenever possible. Check her out on instagram @scramblesquilts
