WEBSITE
Music runs through Shelley Ruffin’s life with all the depth and breadth of the mighty Mississippi coursing past her hometown. A southern girl steeped in delta soul, she’s carried a melody in her heart since her formative years, advancing an almost genetic predisposition to the art form.
Shelley is the granddaughter of a ‘30s-era big band leader, guitar/banjo player and songwriter who regularly opened for Guy Lombardo. The rich musical landscape of Memphis immersed her in a variety of sounds and styles. Shelley’s early years were influenced by musical greats like Al Green, Patsy Cline, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Michael McDonald, Linda Ronstadt, Ann Peebles, and Elvis.
Shelley has had the privilege of working with many award winning arBsts, Hall of Fame musicians, and hit song writers, including: The Memphis Horns (played on over 300 #1 hits), Barry BeckeQ (Muscle Shoals Rhythm SecBon & producer of EQa James), Alex Harvey (writer of “Delta Dawn” & “Ruben James”), Mike Chapman (studio bass player for Garth Brooks & renowned Nashville producer & Country Music Hall of Fame Musician), Audley Freed (lead guitarist of the Black Crowes), Kirk “Jelly Roll” Johnson (renowned blues harmonica player), Judy Rodman (singer, Academy of County Music’s Top New Female Vocalist in 1985, writer of “One Way Ticket” made famous by LeAnn Rimes, vocal instructor to many including Shelley Ruffin), Ricky Ray Rector (guitarist and writer of #1 Country hit “Darlene” & “Stand Up”), Brent Mason (Nashville studio guitarist, Guitar World Magazine “Top Ten Session Guitarist of All Time”, 12 Bme guitarist of the year by CMA), Gordon Mote (Nashville session pianist and songwriter), Jimmy Maingly (Grand Master Fiddle Champion and tours with Garth Brooks), Erik Halbig (Nashville guitarist, songwriter, and touring musician), and Jim Brock (CharloQe’s own award winning studio and touring drummer/percussionist), to name a few.
