Reuben's Painted Mandolin pays tribute to the music of the Jerry Garcia Band. JGB was vastly different from the Grateful Dead. The songs focus more on old R&B, gospel and Motown. If going to see the Grateful Dead was like going to the circus, going to see the Jerry Garcia Band was like going to church.
Reuben's Painted Mandolin is a project put together by Eric "Pappy" Weingrad from theCAUSE and will continue to have a rotating lineup of Pittsburgh's finest players, playing selections from the JGB canon. This evening's performance features Eric Kurtzrock (Bill Toms Band, Eleanor Walrus) on drums, Stephen "pUNK" Cunningham (Eleanor Walrus, One Gig At A Time) on bass, Alec Zander Redd (Afro Yaqui Music Collective) on saxophone and Bill Maruca (Second Line All Stars, Sandoz) on keyboards.
Come feel the music!
