Gaelic Storm is a Celtic band playing selections from traditional Irish music, Scottish music, and original tunes in both the Celtic and Celtic rock genres.
The band features founders Patrick Murphy, lead vocalist and Steve Twigger on acoustic guitar along with Ryan Lacey on drums and world percussion (a two-time graduate of the Los Angeles Music Academy, first for hands and then for sticks), Pete Purvis of Merrickville, Ontario, on uilleann pipes, tin whistle, deger pipes and highland pipes (a Grade 1 piper who toured with award-winning pipe bands including the Braemar Pipe Band and played at 2000 Sydney Olympics), and Katie Grennan of Pittsburgh on fiddle.
Gaelic Storm takes a true blue-collar, hard-nose approach to touring, consistently traveling the US and internationally over 200 days a year, forging a unique path in the Celtic music world. “You have to see us live. We are the true working-mans’ band,” says Ryan Lacey, who joined the lineup in 2003. “We still, and most likely always will, tour most of the year, and that’s how we constantly hone our craft.”
