The Karen L. Charles Threads Dance Project invites you to its 12th season performance, In the Margins. This performance features Charles’ exploration of those who often live “in the margins of society”. It’s an examination of implicit bias as experienced by deaf/hard of hearing communities and women.
Threads will premiere a new work, To Hear Like Me, which seeks to bridge the gap between the majority hearing community and the minority deaf/hard of hearing, creating an experience with dance that incorporates American Sign Language, music visualization, and silence within the piece.
Threads will also perform Femthology, a compilation of repertory works examining the experience of being female. Femthology include audience favorites, such as Sacred Feminine and Bootyful, that have been reimagined to be more accessible to the deaf/hard of hearing community.
The entire performance will challenge the audience to be more aware of two marginalized groups, their experiences, and to be more empathetic and inclusive of those who find themselves living In the Margins.
