Country and Midwestern: Part 2, Who Was Win Stracke?

Join us for the second installment of Country & Midwestern where we celebrate the life and legacy of Win Stracke through conversation, musical performances, and archival material.

Who was Win Stracke? Co-founder of the Old Town School of Folk Music, lifelong friend of Studs Terkel, keeper of the memory of the Haymarket, WLS Barn Dance performer, and the guy tapped to write new verses for the state song when Illinois turned 150, among many, many other things.

Country and Midwestern is series of events culminating in the centennial of the WLS National Barn Dance and inspired by Mark Guarino’s Country and Midwestern: Chicago in the History of Country Music and the Folk Revival (University of Chicago Press, 2023).
