One of modern electronic music’s undisputed founders, Klaus Schulze conjured intuitive paths to otherworldly places.  His emotive improvisation resulted in a warmth and charm often absent in the music of his peers. From his inventive drumming on Tangerine Dream’s first album to the gorgeous brilliance of the posthumously released Dune-themed Deus Arrakis, Schulze ’s legacy continues to expand minds and inspire new generations of aural explorers.
Join us as we celebrate Der Zauberer Klaus Schulze with live tribute performances from three very different musicians:
Pulse Emitter (Daryl Groetsch) began experimenting with electronic music in the late 1990’s, progressing from from creating noisy dronescapes on a self-built modular synthesizer to incorporating melodic, sequencer-driven arrangements with layered vintage synths, to implementing acoustic world instruments and software synthesis. Groetsch has released albums on Hausu Mountain, Constellation Tatsu, Aguirre, Beer On The Rug, and Ultra Eczema, and has toured dates and festivals in Europe and North America. A classically trained musician, Pulse Emitter constantly finds new way to develop expansive tapestries of sound.
Electronic producer Arkham Sunset (Gerry Hathaway) has been creating cinematic Industrial, Synthpop, krautrock, and Dark Ambient textures in PDX for five years, with three full length records and half a dozen EP’s to his credit. Arkham Sunset brings an intense visual aesthetic to live shows built around futuristic lighting techniques and a wide array of both analog and digital synthesizers & drum machines.
FunSize Renegade is the solo project of Christopher Read (Manta, Quiet!, Time Grenade). His DIY recordings are informed by an organic Berlin School approach, the eerie film scores of John Carpenter and electro’s joyful pulse. For Zauberer, Read will be accompanied by Time Grenade collaborators Jennifer Beck and Andy Harmsen on electric viola and drums.
