Knitting Bootcamp For Beginners: Knit Cardigan Project

April 26, 2020 12:00 PM

Doors Open: 12:00 PM
In this all day knitting bootcamp, Instructor Becca Schillinger teaches you the basics of knitting and gets you started on creating stitches using those big knitting needles! No previous knitting experience required! Becca will teach you skills including: reading and understanding a pattern, casting on/off, knitting (duh...), working in garter stitch, increasing and decreasing stitches, finishing and assembling work, and sewing in ends with a yarn needle. The first part of class will include demonstration and instruction on these knitting skills, followed by a practice knitting project. There will be a break for lunch, then you will begin work on your main knitting project. You will have ample time to ask questions, troubleshoot, and perfect your practice. You will leave class with your knitting project, a set of wooden knitting needles, a yarn needle to finish your pieces, and the skills to read and follow simple knitting patterns in order to inspire and complete this and future knitting projects! Also, please note, you won’t finish this project in class, so be prepared to squeeze in some quality couch time and Netflix binging while you knit yourself to the end of this one!

Wool and the Gang - Summer Night Cardigan: For this class, your main project will be the Summer Night Cardigan from Wool and the Gang (pictured above). This soft, lightweight sweater is knit with yarn that is made from 100% upcycled denim. As part of this class, you get a new Wool and the Gang knitting kit! Each kit includes a pair of wooden 6.5 (US10.5) knitting needles, seven balls of Billie Jean yarn, a yarn needle, and the pattern. For more information on Wool and the Gang and photos of this project, visit: https://www.woolandthegang.com/en/products/summer-night-cardigan-knitting-kit.

Supplies Needed: None. We will supply all yarn and needles, which you will take home with you.

Instructor Bio: Becca Schillinger earned her BFA in drawing and painting from CCAC here in San Francisco, and was trained by drag queens in NYC on how to paint a fashion-week worthy face.
