The Glitch Princess, Nat Ćmiel, was born December 16, 1997 in Singapore, Singapore. They are a non-binary, London-based painter, musician, performance artist, and cyborg entity. During adolescence they found solace and comfort in an internet of niche online communities, MMORPG gaming, and tumblr. The yeule project was fabricated by Ćmiel to act as a portal to communicate their art to the outside world while still being protected within their inner shell. yeule has always had access to multiple avatars and the freedom to change or contort at will-- a mutable, chameleon-like multiplicity. The music becomes a way to store fragments of their reality, dreams, and inner states--an external memory device, a brain or emotional center that exists independently of its creator.
“Glitch Princess” opens a channel to the in-between spaces: error messages and broken computer code, what it is to be conceptually manifested and the curation of the aesthete. Ćmiel’s experiences with sobriety resulted in a flood of emotions and “Glitch Princess” is the undiluted excerpt of this downpour. A redirection of chaotic energy into verse, and the opportunity to confront their own vices.
Soothing un-melodies rest comfortably among the jagged edges of feedback loops. Video game scores, experimental shoegaze sounds, and ethereal whispers come together to build an underworld with the occasional erratic dance beat to guide users deeper into the fever dream. It is an album of liminal spaces, a digital sphere straddling sweetness and death with the understanding that the two will always be tied to each other. yeule is inviting us to transcend into a post-human world where expression is no longer bound by identity, but rather we are free to assemble ourselves along lines of affinity. A future where our assigned gender is no longer relevant and can congregate with whoever we are drawn to, regardless of our prior designations.
Michele Yue is a Chinese born American DJ, musician, and jewelry designer originally from Houston, TX currently residing in NYC. Yue has had a long-standing love for fashion, music, and using her body as a means of expression since childhood. Growing up in Houston, Yue studied ballet and piano and later graduated with a degree in Art History. Through experimentation with her appearance, Yue realized that she could alter her physical identity to become art. In her early adulthood, Yue was deeply influenced by performing in the underground music scene and attending the raves and clubs in Texas. In 2017, Yue left the US to live in Paris, where she fell in love with the art, fashion, and club scene. In 2018, Yue relocated to NYC, where she feels the most at home. Today, Yue is inspired by raw, untethered emotion and the universal spiritual journey. Her experimental sets are a diverse mixture spanning multiple genres designed create an emotional climax.
