Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Jeff Brown & Still Lonesome performs traditional bluegrass, but in the style that Dr. Ralph Stanley preferred to call mountain music. As the name suggests, the groups music seeks to invoke the high lonesome sounds the Stanleys and other artists from far Southwest Virginia have made their calling card. Group leader Jeff Brown is well qualified to present this style having played with Dr. Stanley and with Larry Sparks. Jeff has a compelling and distinctive singing style that is well suited to capturing that desired lonesome quality. Jeff is supported by a great cast of pickers and singers including Austin Brown on bass, Nick Goad on mandolin, and Rod Smith on banjo. ~~~~ The Cabin Creek Boys play old-time hillbilly music from the mountains of Southwest Virginia and Northwest North Carolina, entertaining audiences with old-time hoedowns, bluegrass and old time songs, and two-step numbers and waltzes. Led by multi-instrumentalist and award-winning husband and wife duo Chris and Erika Testerman of Lansing, North Carolina, the band also includes Jackson Cunningham of Grant, Virginia, on guitar; Trish Kilby Fore of Galax, Virginia, on clawhammer banjo; and Jerry Steinberg of Salem, Virginia, on bass. ~~~~ The Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music Homecoming is made possible by the support of the Appalachian Regional Commission, Food City, National Endowment for the Arts, Virginia Department of Housing & Economic Development, Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, Virginia Tourism Corporation, Blue Ridge Beverage, Virginia Commission for the Arts, Davenport & Company, Market Connections, Community Foundation for the New River Valley, Asset Solutions Corporation, Ballad Health, McGuire Woods LLP, Galax Moose Lodge # 773, Union Bank, Bank of Marion, Bill Kornrich, Breaks Insterstate Park, David & Judie Reemsnyder, Electric Hardwoods, Moonstruck Management, CGI, Rotary Club of Washington County, Jefferson College of Health Sciences, FocusOne Integrated Financial Planning, Chantilly Farm, Downtown Wytheville Association, SWCC Educational Foundation, Walt & Janet Crickmer.
