Look, bodies are all different -- and it’s rare to take something off the rack and have it fit you perfectly. So, in this Sewing 102 class, you will build on the basic sewing skills learned in our Sewing 101 or Sewing Bootcamp in order to make your very own, perfectly fitted work shirt, Kramer shirt, or even a puffy shirt!
Though basic sewing skills are required for this class, no prior knowledge of garment construction is necessary. You’ll learn to make all the necessary parts of the shirt, including a collar, shirt sleeves, front pocket, snaps, and French seams. We will show you how to do the entire garment construction process using a single needle basic machine and your bare hands! We’ll demo how to cut out a garment with a commercial pattern, but actual fabric for this project will be pre-cut prior to class. The fabric for this class will be dot chambray, as is shown in the photos, and is specially selected for ease of sewing to ensure that your shirt comes out looking great!
The base patterns we use are Kwik Sew #k3422 and Kwik Sew #k3555. The women’s version is going to have a slimmer waist and a shorter sleeve and body hem, where as the men’s pattern is a bit boxier. We are offering the shirt in xs-xxl. Sizes will be pre-selected before class to ensure everyone gets the size they prefer. When signing up, please go over the size chart to select your size (size charts are of body measurements and not of the finished garment). If you're at all concerned with not falling within that size range, let us know before signing up so we can help you! This is a size inclusive class and no one will turned away!
In order to attend this class, you MUST have taken either Sewing 101 or Sewing Bootcamp at WorkshopSF. (We’ll also take you if you’re already competent and comfortable using a sewing machine.) We’ll briefly go over the Janome 2212 at the beginning of class. If you have questions about the sewing skill level required by this class, please email us.
