In this film adaptation of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, widowed Welsh mother Anna Loenowens (Deborah Kerr) becomes a governess and English tutor to the wives and many children of the stubborn King Mongkut of Siam (Yul Brynner). Anna and the king have a clash of personalities as she works to teach the royal family about the English language, customs and etiquette, and rushes to prepare a party for a group of European diplomats who must change their opinions about the king. The Valentine Theatre is proud to partner with the University of Toledo School of Visual and Performing Arts to present UT Movie Talks. Professor Charlene Gilbert will share the history of "The King and I," as well as fascinating insights into the making of the film. The UT Movie Talks will begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude shortly before the the start of the film. Please join us to learn more about your favorite cinematic classics. Tickets are general admission and are available for walk up purchase one hour before showtime.
