In this all day crochet bootcamp, Instructor Becca Schillinger teaches you the basics of crochet and gets you started on creating stitches! Crochet is a bit faster and easier than knitting, and uses a crochet hook instead of large knitting needles to create stitches. No previous crochet or knitting experience is required! Becca will teach you skills including: reading and altering a pattern, starting a foundation chain, how to work in single crochet, how to turn your work, joining new yarns, and finishing by weaving in ends using a yarn needle.

The first part of class will include demonstration and instruction on these crochet skills, followed by a practice crochet project. There will be a break for lunch, then you will begin work on your main crochet project. You will have ample time to ask questions, troubleshoot, and perfect your practice. You will leave class with some or most of your project finished (everyone’s speed is different), as well as a wooden crochet hook, a yarn needle to finish your pieces, and the skills to read and follow simple crochet patterns in order to inspire and complete future crochet projects!
Wool and the Gang - Sweet Intuition Scarf: For this class, your final project will be the Sweet Intuition Scarf from Wool and the Gang (pictured above). This 100% wool scarf is super warm, cozy and gender neutral; you’ll want to live in it. As part of this class, you will receive a new Wool and the Gang crochet kit! Each kit includes a 15MM crochet hook, 3 balls of WATG's Crazy Sexy Wool in an assortment of colors, the pattern, and a sewing needle. For more information about Wool and the Gang and photos of this project, visit: https://www.woolandthegang.com/en/products/sweet-intuition-scarf-crochet

Supplies Needed: None. We will supply the yarn and hook, which you will take home with you. If you have special yarn (chunky thick yarn is best) that you would like to bring in and test, please feel free!

Instructor Bio: Becca Schillinger earned her BFA in drawing and painting from CCAC here in San Francisco, and was trained by drag queens in NYC on how to paint a fashion-week worthy face. Knitting is her zen craft practice and she skypes with her 93 year old grandmother for advice on projects constantly. Becca teaches many of our fiber art workshops in addition to knit and crochet, such as macrame and punch needle.
