Wanna make one these amazing geometric pillows, but never touched a sewing machine? We got you. In this class, learn the basics of using a sewing machine as we walk you through how to design, cut, and sew up this little dream machine. Choose from an array of fabrics to customize your design. Each pillow measures 18" x 18", and includes a polished looking fold over backing, so no difficult zippers or buttons are required. You will leave with one square, geometric pillow and the confidence to continue sewing on your own. This is a stand alone class, so feel free to take our Sewing Bootcamp or other sewing classes afterwards to continue honing your craft!
Some specific skills learned in this class include:
- Learning sewing machine settings and usage
- Industry standards for stitch lengths (garments vs. home goods)
- Following an existing pattern and measuring for your own
- AND...you’ll even dip your toe into a little quilting while you’re at it!
Supplies Needed: None. We supply all fabric, pillow inserts, and the machines. You will be using a simple Janome 2212, which is great for learning and skills can easily transfer to other machines. Please don’t bring your own machine.
Instructor Bio: Lifelong fiber artist, sewing guru, and WorkshopSF head honcho Hayley has had a long love affair with all things sewing. Past works include clothing, quilts, alterations, home goods, animals, fiber taxidermy, tool rolls, bags, and much, much more! Feel free to pick her brain with all your sewing Q’s. If she doesn’t have the answer, she’ll work with you to find it!
The rules / important stuff: We have a NO EXCEPTIONS 72 HOUR CANCELLATION policy - this includes cancellation, re-books, gift certificates, moving classes, etc. For more information on canceling a class, please read our cancellation policy.
