Klypi is the rising pop alias of multidisciplinary artist AC Carter. Born and raised in the American South, Klypi moved to Los Angeles in 2021 after the release of their debut record “Consensual Hits”. Their intention: to “make it” in pop music — a divergence away from what was thought to be their natural trajectory: painting. When not accepted into the prestigious graduate program at Yale, AC had a decision to make - to continue to pursue what they knew, or to forge a new path of creation.
Music is the fundamental framework for communicating the human condition, most topically experiences that Klypi knows: trauma and unrequited love. Influenced by character construction, entrepreneurial gusto, post-minimalism, mundane cyber-punk aesthetics, and dark-humor, Klypi embodies a troubled protagonist, determined to fulfill their dreams, to be their true self beyond what a biological body holds, and to show that anyone can find the power within themselves to do the same.
AC has performed under various other monickers, opening for artists such as Molly Nilsson ,John Maus, ShitKid, and Girlpool - as well has designed garments for Jennifer Vanilla ’s performance at MoMA PS1 (2019) and for Kevin Barnes’ in of Montreal’s music video “Plateau Phase/No Careerism No Corruption” (2018). Additionally, AC produced a genre unspecific festival called Ad•verse Fest in Athens, GA in 2019 and 2020, which featured artists such as LEYA, Dynasty Handbag, and Wizard Apprentice.
Funky beats with booming synth sounds, topped with his seductive and often sarcastic vocals. Known for his over the top live performances, it’s rarely confined to the stage. He dances like a madman while performing, often taking it all into the crowd.
