Five Easy Pieces presents a wide ranging mix of classic rock, ballads, blues and original compositions in a largely acoustic setting. With four strong singers, the vocals are prominently featured. From The Beatles and Van Morrison to ZZ Top and Sam Cooke, most any and all musical styles are represented.
Five Easy Pieces consists of Tommy Hartley on vocals and guitar, Jason Barker on vocals and guitar, Billy Belk on vocals and bass, Carter Minor on vocals and harmonica and Bakru Hunsel on drums and percussion.
Tommy Hartley has been a fixture of the Triangle music scene for many years. His projects have included SLOWHAND – a Tribute to Eric Clapton, The Tornado Blues Band, Rewind, The Doug Prescott Band and Sutter’s Gold Streak Reunion Tour. He brings a wealth of experience to the group.
Jason Barker has likewise been involved in many regional music ventures, including an active teaching schedule. He was also part of The Tornado Blues Band and performs as a solo artist. His expertise also includes production and arranging. He and Tommy have played together for over twenty years.
Billy Belk is returning to the music scene after several years of inactivity. He and Tommy played with the late Dave Braswell in Trickbag, a power trio blues band active regionally in the late ‘90s. His solid bass lines and strong vocals are an integral part of our sound.
Carter Minor needs no introduction. He has been active in many different aspects of the Triangle musical pantheon as a singer, instrumentalist, voice over artist and much, much more. As band director and music teacher at Cary Christian School, as well as an associate minister, he lives his faith daily. He was a member of Heartwood, Steps and many other musical groups. Carter is a good friend, a consummate musician and we are lucky to have him on board.
Last, but certainly not least, is Bakru Hunsel. Hailing from the South American country of Suriname, he brings an extensive knowledge of rock, jazz and blues percussion to the stage. He was a member of The Tornado Blues Band and is currently active in Floy Doy, an eclectic jazz ensemble featuring Bryan McCune on cornet. Bakru’s groove is deep and we are indeed fortunate to have him.
Please watch email and Facebook for gig alerts concerning upcoming events. Our recent shows have included Abbey Road in Cary, Apex and Fuquay, City Kitchen in Chapel Hill and Durham’s premier listening room The Blue Note Grill. Please make plans to join us for an evening of the music we love and you love to dance to. We hope to see many of you in the near future. Please continue to support live music and Five Easy Pieces.
