The Lehigh Valley Arts Council is coordinating an Audio Description Workshop for the Visual Arts to assist our Arts and Historical Museums to reach the community with vision loss. Former PA VSA director Mimi Smith will conduct the workshop on Friday, December 1st in the Martin Art Gallery from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Baker Center for the Arts, Muhlenberg College in Allentown. This interactive workshop targets curators, volunteers, and docents to learn how to write descriptions of art work or artifacts, thereby allowing the patron with visual loss to engage with the pieces on display. At the end of the day, attendees will have an opportunity to practice their descriptions for a few invited members of the visual loss community.

The workshop will utilize the Martin Art Gallery exhibition , Rendering, featuring work by Chris Coleman and Anthony Panzera that runs from November 15 through January 15, 2018. Coleman will be showing video and photo works based on images generated by his custom authored 3D scanning software, in conversation with original drawings from Panzera’s “The Leonardo Series”, Drawings by Anthony Panzera. Based on Leonardo da Vinci’s Work on Human Proportion.

We are also pleased to welcome John Orr, Executive Director from Arts Reach in Philadelphia, to speak about developing an accessibility program at your facility that is both user-friendly and affordable.

Registration is $20 for Lehigh Valley Arts Council members; $40 for nonmembers. Attendance is limited to fifteen registrants, so register soon at LVArtsCouncil.org.
