Annapurna
The last decade has seen a generational coming of age in the world of heavy music: it seems that the metalcore enthusiasts, doom-stoners, and screamo scenesters of the late aughts all find common ground in their mellowing out. A background in loud music isn't all the four members of Annapurna share though: each bandmate (from all over the flyover states) found their home in Louisville, KY, which has served as the metaphorical and actual soil for Annapurna to cultivate their aesthetic self-actualization. After their quiet genesis as an acoustic trio in 2015, the band has fleshed out their skeleton crew with drums and have released their debut LP, "The Greater Good."
Annapurna's distinctive aura is a product of meticulously harrowed influences, elevated by an almost spiritual polyphony. Alternately tuned guitar chords cascade over each other in clustered 7ths, an improbable acoustic snaking its copper-wound tendrils around purposeful melodies in a blend of effortless harmony and sharp counterpoint. Never has a group so fluently combined the djenty mathematics of Chon with the ethereal nakedness of a Copeland track as the band does on their first single, "Henna," which received great attention on 91.9 WFPK.
Annapurna is something like Minus the Bear and Intervals having a love child and baptizing it in the Ohio River. It is a distinctly midwestern and immaculately complex blend, interpolated in a nuanced take that stands up to repeated listens. Shouldering the emotional weight of growth through struggle, in art and life, is the seal Annapurna carries on their lips: somewhere in the rests between those melodic breakdowns, you'll find little seeds. Those seeds are hope.

LEDGES is made up by Ohio Natives Andy Hoffman, Alex Hoffman, Cory Heddleston, and Trevor Burke. After the successful release of their debut album Homecoming, the band has regrouped and spent some intentional time refining their sound. After hitting the studio and spending time with producer Jeremy Steckel, LEDGES has built of off the sound of Homecoming and added more power, dynamics, and overall musicianship to their writing process. The rawness of the Indie Rock Scene combined with the sheen of polished pop production and synth instrumentation makes for a dreamy, yet hard hitting journey for the listener. Starting in the fall of 2018 they plan on unveiling a series of new singles, then hitting the road for a series of Midwest tour dates.
Substream Magazine had this to say about LEDGES after the release of Homecoming:
"What is it the makes an artist or group stand out from the countless others competing for our attention at any given moment? The answer may be different for everyone, but in my mind it always comes back to where the talent in question sources their material. When musicians find way to tap into the purest of human emotion and translate that feeling into a song it's as if you've witnessed the most elaborate of magic tricks. For a few minutes you are able to feel more connected to the world at large because someone, or some group, has shared an experience or moment or emotion that you have felt as well. This is the kind of art the members of Ledges aspired to create with each release, and they have certainly achieved that goal with their debut album."
