Build It Yourself: Modern Wooden Pegboard (UPPER HAIGHT LOCATION)
September 18, 2019
7:00 PM
Doors Open: 6:45 PM
Doors Open: 6:45 PM
PLEASE NOTE: THIS CLASS TAKES PLACE AT WORKSHOPSF’S SECOND LOCATION IN UPPER HAIGHT AT 1310 HAIGHT STREET b/w CENTRAL AND MASONIC.
In this BUILD IT YOURSELF class, professional woodworker and artist Nicole Sweeney will help you transform pine boards, dowels, and a sheet of birch plywood into this beautiful wooden pegboard! First, Nicole will go over the power tools and building materials necessary for the build. After a demonstration of their proper usage and safety, you’ll practice and get comfy with each tool before we turn you loose on construction. You’ll have a chance to play around with the layout design to customize it for whatever fun items you’d like to display. Once the design is set, Nicole will guide you through the build and assembly. For those who plan to hang their pegboard, Nicole will also show you how to properly mount it to a wall.
Each square pegboard measures approximately 24" x 24", and students will decide in class how many shelves (up to three) and/or individual dowels they would like to use. If you have a few objects in mind that you’d like to display (you know... potted plants, your unread self-help books, tangled jewelry, or framed glamour shots of you and your loved one) then we highly encourage you to bring them in! Especially if you have framed glamour shots... Each student will leave with one completed pegboard and a working knowledge of tools and processes to complete more building projects at home!
TOOLS & SKILLS
- general safety procedures
- using a power drill, drill bits, and spade bits
- using measuring tools and jigs for precision in construction
- using a nail gun and wood glue for assembly
- sanding and protecting your wood
PLEASE NOTE: This class is great for total beginners with zero woodworking experience, as well as intermediates who simply like the project and/or feel a little rusty and want to get back into the craft. Our classes are more lo-fi and intended to be accessible to anyone with an interest in the subject and desire to learn!
Supplies Needed: None. All wood and building materials for this project are included. Please do not wear open toe shoes or sandals (we suggest tennis shoes or boots). We will supply gloves, goggles, dust masks, and aprons as necessary. Feel free to bring in any objects that you would like to display, as this will help with deciding how to arrange your shelves and dowels.
