"Onstage, Dore's academia goes out the window, and she can rock with the best of them."
So says one reviewer of Nashville native Florence Dore, who played with various punk, rock and country bands for 15 years before cutting her first LP Perfect City in 2001 with Eric Ambel. In his write-up of Perfect City, John Pareles of the New York Times called her voice "plaintive." A professor by day, teaching songwriting and literature at UNC Chapel Hill, Florence has hosted a conference at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and site on the board at the Bob Dylan Archives. The Posies covered her song, "Christmas" on a 1994 Geffen release, and in recent years she has performed with her husband, Will Rigby, and Peter Holsapple, founding members of pop legends the dBs. Florence is putting out a book on literature and rock featuring discussions with Richard Thompson, Greil Marcus, Peter Guralnick, Lucinda Williams, and Steve Earle-and she is also making a new album. Florence will be joined on stage by Peter Holsapple, who has played with dB's and REM among others; Will Rigby, whose credits include the dB's and Steve Earle; Son Volt guitarist Mark Spencer; and Jeremy Chatzky, who has played with Bruce Springsteen and Ronnie Spector.
