Vocal phenom Joey Santo will return with his take on the legendary Frank Sinatra songbook.  Santo will be accompanied by the Sean Higgins Trio.

Joey Santo

Joey santo brings a fresh young take to Middle C Jazz on the timeless classics recorded by Frank Sinatra 70 years ago.  Santo brings a big sound on Sinatra’s swing tunes, and manages to switch it up with a remarkably tender interpretation on the ballads.

This performance is one that you definitely will not want to miss! World-renowned saxophonist Mike Phillips is bringing his legendary style to Middle C Jazz for one night only…

Mike Phillips
WEBSITE
LISTEN

World-renowned saxophonist Mike Phillips is known as one of the most electrifying instrumentalists today.  Mike is the first musician signed by Michael Jordan to the Nike Jordan Brand, home of the Air Jordan, and is the only musician in the world to have recorded and toured with the legendary “Big Three” of American soul and pop music: Michael Jackson, Prince, and Stevie Wonder, not only as a member of the band, but as a featured soloist.

Mike toured for nearly two years as part of the band for ‘Michael Jackson The IMMORTAL Tour’ by Cirque du Soleil.  And music superstar Prince knew what audiences around the world know… when Mike Phillips puts his saxophone to his lips, magic is about to happen.

Prince once quoted “I was offstage, listening to Michael Phillips take his solo. I was thinking ‘Wow, listen to those people responding, and all he’s doing is playing a saxophone.’ They can feel that what he’s doing is real. So many shows now…they are so dead. But here’s one man breathing into an instrument, and the whole room feels alive. It made me want to rise up to that level when I came back onstage.” Prince, Rolling Stone, 5/27/04

Phillips is no stranger to the professional sports world, as his version of the National Anthem during the 2016 NFC Championship game sent shockwaves all over the NFL deemed one of the best anthems ever done instrumentally and now is known as the “SAXTHEM”.

Dawn Anthony

Dawn Anthony earned her degree in music from Queens University of Charlotte, but still pursues her love for learning, performing and teaching through cultural exchanges and musical collaborations beyond the stage and classroom.

Born in Philadelphia but raised in Georgia, she considers herself a northerner with a southern heart! Dawn attributes her versatility and skill to sing other genres to her classical training. Singing everything from classical to jazz, and musical theater to gospel—she thrives on challenging herself to grow as a musician, and making connections with others beyond the words and notes on the page.

In February of 2018, Dawn completed her first children's book entitled “The Gift Way Up in the Closet.” In July of 2019, she partnered with S. Kristi Douglas for the musical adaptation of her children's book, “The Gift Way Up in the Closet: The Musical.” The works are to encourage children to seek their gifts and talents. The production took “Best Short Play” honors at the 2020 Atlanta Black Theatre Festival.

Dawn was honored to pay tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson for JazzArts Charlotte's Jazz Room series and serves as a music educator for her own organization, DNAMuzic.

One Moment in Time" brings Whitney Houston’s musical legacy to life in this newly created and high intensity tribute show. Be dazzled by the breathtaking vocals of Annie Adams as she takes you on a journey through the wonderful songs and bodies of work of America's Sweetheart Whitney Houston.  Along with the accompaniment of her live band "The Annie Adams Experience" this is a beautifully crafted tribute to one of the world’s most revered singers.

         LEAD VOCALS: Annie Adams
BACKGROUND VOCALS:  Kyran McShaw and Melvinie Jackson
         DRUMS: Jordan Johnson
         KEYS: Brian Lorde
         LEAD GUITAR: Cam Moore
         BASS GUITAR:  Archie "Snoop" Pearson
         SAXOPHONE: Warren Raybon Sr.

Annie Adams
What do you get when you combine the smooth vocals of classic R&B and Jazz, along with the energy and fun of today? An irresistible cocktail that smooths the soul and heightens your senses by the name of Annie Adams.

While she grew up on gospel, her sound resonates and innovates like Ledisi and Jill Scott. To top it off, she incorporates the cosmopolitan sensibilities of an educated, well-traveled, and well-rounded young woman to create a soulful aesthetic that is anything but around the way.

There’s every day and there’s exceptional. Annie Adams’ fans know the difference, and that’s why they can’t get enough of this 21st century entertainer.

Bringing back the pure R&B sound combining intense vocals, jazz, gospel & blues, Annie Adams continues to mesmerize.

Currently, based in Indian Trail, NC (just outside of Charlotte, NC), her spirit & essence of soul stemmed from the church.

Being an only child pushed Annie to recognize her gift as she continues to evolve.

Not only has she been a female demo vocalist for Virgin Records, Capital Records & Bad Boy Records, Annie has also shared stages with several artists such as Tank, Dru Hill, Hi-Five, Big Daddy Kane, Sunshine Anderson, Nikki D & the R&B group, SOLO, to name a few.

Annie’s powerful vocal performances have also been highly showcased in various shows and events as well.

Her mission is to continue to create a melodic sound that will keep you wanting more.

Prepare for the journey to take you on a nostalgic ride through the heartfelt sound of the voice of Miss Annie Adams.

This is a show you won’t want to miss... Gerald Albright, an 8-time Grammy-nominated musician, will be gracing the Middle C Jazz stage for a night full of smooth jazz.

Gerald Albright, born and raised in Los Angeles, was an accomplished saxophonist well before he enrolled into Redlands University. Months after graduation he joined jazz pianist/ R&B singer Patrice Rushen and took the place of the bass player and finished up the tour with her playing both the saxophone and bass. He then became the consummate session and touring musician in the 1980’s, working alongside artists from Anita Baker, Ray Parker JR., The Temptations and Maurice White to Les McCann, and Whitney Houston.

Albright then launched his solo career in the infancy of what became the smooth jazz format. He has become a core part of the genre with chart-topping albums, countless radio hits and as a member of many all-star tours. In the later 1990’s he fronted a big band and toured with Phil Collins. Between his last two Grammy nominations for his solo albums, he enjoyed his collaboration on two huge hits, 24/7 with guitarist Norman Brown and Summer Horns by Dave Koz and Friends, which were also nominated for Grammy’s in the category of Best Pop Instrumental Albums.

Because Albright’s musical muse has taken him to so many fascinating locales along the contemporary R & B/ Urban jazz spectrum, he’s joyfully defied easy categorizations.

“Whether in concert, listening to my music over the radio or CD player, I always want my listeners to be taken on a musical journey with different textures, rhythms, chord progressions and moods. I want people to know where I’ve been and where I’m going, and to let them hear that I’m in a really good place in my life.” – Gerald Albright
