    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

“Let me sit this ass on ya…”

Kiki’s Delivery Service of Sexy Sweaty Summer Lovin’, curated by local actor/singer Kimo Camat, is an electrifying concert that promises to be a transformative celebration of intimacy, self-discovery, and the profound connections we share with those we love and with those we invite into our beds. This hot end of summer concert invites the audience to embark on a voyage of personal awakening, encouraging us to feel at home in our bodies and embrace the sensuality that lies within through music and some spoken word. Fusing Funk, Neo Soul, and a dash of Musical Theatre, KIKI will take you to sonic heights with soulful covers as well as premiering their own original pieces.

Serving as somewhat of a “Part Two” to their February show, Kiki’s Delivery Service of Love Songs & Heartbreak, this concert delves into the myriad ways we connect with one another, highlighting the beauty and complexity of our bumbling beautifully built bodies. These tales of intimacy and passion are told with a raw honesty that is both moving and hilarious, celebrating the liberating magic that happens when we open our hearts, souls, and holes to others.

Kiki’s Delivery Service of Sexy Sweaty Summer Lovin’ is a celebration of sexual awakenings and self love. It invites us to let go of our inhibitions, to dance with abandon, and to revel in the beauty of our own bodies and throw caution to the wind. Whether he’s sweating onstage at the mic, dishonoring his family on his knees at Blowpony, or platonically flirting with everyone he meets, KIKI has learned to embrace and confess his love to every swerve and curve on his body.

Kimo Camat has had the privilege to spend the last 16 years creating art on stage and has found solace in singing and performing. His band includes Mak Kastelic (piano), Joseph Mammarella (guitar), Juliet Terrill (bass), Paul Van Sickle (drums), Peter QB (saxophone), Christina Avellan Mantilla / Madeleine Tran / Xander Dean (backing vocals).

This event is graciously sponsored by Portland Queer Arts Project.

    Too Slim & The Taildraggers

Tim “Too Slim“ Langford is a monster guitarist and unabashed
blues rocker whose influences run the gamut from Lightnin’ Hopkins,
Freddy King, Duane Allman, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Robin
 Trower.

He is a prolific singer/songwriter whose songs have now
yielded an impressive 14 studio albums, 2 solo albums and several live CD’s on the Vizztone and his own Underworld Records labels.
Too Slim and the Taildraggers are Tim “Too Slim" Langford on guitar/vocals, Zach Kasik on bass/vocals and Chris Reiser on drums/vocals.

Too Slim and the Taildraggers ever evolving musical direction cannot easily be classified into any box or category.  Tim “Too Slim" Langford has received Lifetime Achievement and Hall Of Fame awards by three Northwest blues societies,
as well as more than 40 regional and national music awards.

Johnny Wheels and the Swamp Donkeys

The son of a traveling bass player and singer, Johnny “Wheels” Kennicott had music in his blood since birth, but expressing himself musically took on new importance when Johnny broke his neck in a childhood accident, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down.

Though his father’s instrument of choice and his early passion of playing drums were now out due to limited function, Johnny found, through determined trial and error, he could manipulate his paralyzed diaphragm to not only sing, but also blow the harmonica. Since that time, Johnny has been traveling the Pacific Northwest music scene, spreading the gospel of the blues.

Collectively, the band hails from Oregon, Texas and California and is typically tagged as a Blues band; although, the diversity of the members’ musical backgrounds becomes evident as the worlds of R&B, Soul, Jazz, Funk and Rock are blended under a Blues umbrella.

Paris Chansons is an exciting French band with an Eastern European gypsy twist! Recently featured on the French news, they are known for their original renditions of French favorites from Aznavour, Dassin, Piaf, Macias, Adamo, Dalida, all the way to contemporary artists like Zaz. Their exhilarating performances are punctuated with gypsy jazz standards as well as classics in Russian, Italian, and other languages.

Three multilingual singers bring an unparalleled diversity to their shows. Julia Kantor, originally from the Ukraine, lived and studied in France where she discovered in French music a soul connection that still imbues every performance. She entrances from the stage with a sultry voice and dynamic presence. Together with her husband, Jacob Kantor, a Russian-born singer/songwriter, they launched Paris Chansons. Max Cohen grew up in Morocco steeped in French music, particularly the songs of Enrico Macias. Max’s rich velvety tone delivers beautifully nuanced renditions of his favorites, complete with a signature North African lilt.

Superb musicianship anchors the ensemble, effortlessly moving from jazzy improvisation to slow-burning balladry to blistering gypsy fervor. All seasoned pros, the musicians are Jeff Lams on piano, Adam Cohen on upright bass, Endre Balogh on violin, Sinclair Lott on drums and Jacob Kantor on guitar. Paris Chansons takes you an a journey without leaving your seat (except, of course, to dance!), a spectacular celebration of French and international music that brings the world that much closer.

The hidden role of fungi inside and all around us.

From beneficial yeasts that aid digestion to toxic molds that cause disease, we are constantly navigating a world filled with fungi. Our health and well-being depend on an immense ecosystem of yeasts and molds inside and all around us.

Come on a guided tour of a marvelously unseen realm, describing how our immune systems are engaged in continuous conversation with the teeming mycobiome inside the body, and how we can fall prey to serious and even life-threatening infections when this peaceful coexistence is disturbed. Our speaker also sheds light on our complicated relationship with fungi outside the body, from wild mushrooms and cultivated molds that have been staples of the human diet for millennia to the controversial experimentation with magic mushrooms in the treatment of depression.

Drawing on the latest advances in mycology, Molds, Mushrooms, and Medicines reveals what scientists are learning about the importance of fungi to our lives, from their vital role in supporting the ecosystems on which we depend to their emerging uses in lifesaving medicine.

Nicholas Money is a mycologist and professor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

3000 Ne Alberta St.
Portland, OR
United States
Located in the heart of the eclectic Alberta Arts District, the Alberta Rose originally opened as a motion picture house in 1927 and showed films until it closed in 1978. The theatre has 300 fixed seats and radiates the serene feeling of a Spanish-Colonial courtyard. The Alberta Rose is a mid-size, seated listening room where the audience can enjoy excellent lines of sight, outstanding acoustics and where every seat feels close to the stage and the artist.
