    THE RAVEONETTES
    Copenhagen, Denmark
    http://www.theraveonettes.com/

When The Raveonettes released their debut album Whip it on! in 2002, there was quite a buzz around the Danish duo. With its dogmatic concept a la Lars Von Trier/Dogma ’95 and a razor-sharp sound, Whip It On! kicked off the biggest rock event in recent Danish history.

After 20 years, Whip it is on! sounds just as precise and uncompromising. And after a 5-year concert hiatus, Sune and Sharin are once again cracking the whip with a series of anniversary concerts. "... It’s a thrill for us that Whip It On! is still a source of inspiration out there. That album passed the test of time somehow, and it makes us very proud. We’re excited to play it live again in its 21 minute glory. Our own little time travel.”

Sune & Sharin Sune Rose Wagner (guitar and vocals) and Sharin Foo (bass, guitar and vocals) drew inspiration from 1950s American Rock'n'roll, 60s girl groups and the surf guitar sound from California. Back in the Noughties, they were part of the new garage rock movement that featured bands like The Strokes, The Hives and The White Stripes. Their unique contribution were especially Wagner and Foo's 'vocal candy': the compressed, modal, sweet boy / girl harmonies in stark contrast to an explosive and dissonant sound, and that peculiar feeling of surfing in the rain.

The Raveonettes have since become a source of inspiration for a large number of bands, and according to NME helped trigger the American pop renaissance that took place in the 10s with bands like Best Coast, The Drums and Dum Dum Girls who found inspiration in Raveonettes' classic pop
    sensibility.

The Raveonettes who have had a solid and unshakable cult fan base ever since releasing their first album, would like to celebrate the sound that started it all. The duo will hit the road in the key of Bb minor,- which was one of the original dogmas when the band created Whip It On! “Recorded in Glorious Bb Minor” Sune and Sharin are bringing the original live band from 2002, consisting of Manoj Ramdas on guitar and Jakob Høyer on drums.

Hosted by Ian Karmel and featuring the talents of Sean Jordan and David Gborie, each episode the crew picks a topic - anything from Rom-Coms to Rap Albums, the Best Breakfast foods to the Best Smells. You name it, they can draft it. And then debate it, clown each other for the picks, reveal our secret terrible taste that we didn’t even know was terrible and then laugh about the whole operation.

Note: There will be no recording or photography of any kind permitted at this show. This includes personal cell phones. You will be subject to removal without refund if caught recording the show.

    AMEN DUNES
    New York, NY
    https://amendunes.bandcamp.com/

With Death Jokes, for the first time since the project's incarnation in 2006, the spiritual reflections and meditations of Amen Dunes are turned away from himself, and out sharply towards the world. The album is also a drastic turn musically and thematically, rooted in the electronic music of raves and of rap music he grew up with but never imagined himself able to make, playing like a scathing electronic essay on America's culture of violence, dominance, and destructive individualism.

The work on Death Jokes began just weeks before the first word of the pandemic came in the winter of 2019; it was completed three years later as we began to emerge from the worst. The album's meaning morphed as the pandemic went on, first a reflection on our attachment to form, and to ourselves, and then shifting into a solemn indictment of our culture's blind spots as we misjudge and attack, veiled self-centeredness and self-importance masquerading as morality."

    8:00 - $32 - All Ages

    DEVOTCHKA
    Denver, CO
    https://www.devotchka.net/

A cross-pollination of numerous influences, including cabaret, spaghetti Westerns, norteño, punk, and the immigrant dance music of Eastern Europe, Colorado-based quartet DeVotchKa, formed in Denver by multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals, guitar, trumpet), Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, bass) and percussionist Shawn King, emerged as unlikely indie heroes in the mid-2000s infusing modern indie music with a global flavor.

They found widespread success in 2006 with their Grammy-nominated soundtrack to the hit indie film Little Miss Sunshine. Signing with revered indie, Anti-, the band delivered A Mad and Faithful Telling in early 2008, reaching the number nine slot on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. A lengthy world tour followed, including stops at major festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Bumbershoot. After doing more soundtrack work, this time for the 2009 comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, the group returned to the studio for 2011’s moody and triumphant 100 Lovers. Embarking on another world tour, they collaborated with the Colorado Symphony on the 2012 concert album Live with the Colorado Symphony. Over the next several years, Urata became increasingly involved in his own film composition career, scoring movies like Crazy Stupid Love, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Paddington, and the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events. Meanwhile, the band regrouped for a lengthy recording session, eventually returning in 2018 with their sixth album, This Night Falls Forever, this time via Concord Records.

    YARD ACT
    Leeds, UK

What do you do when everything you’ve ever wanted suddenly lands in your lap, but the questions still keep on coming?

Since first steering their golden Rover into swift public acclaim back in 2020, Leeds quartet Yard Act have become one of the great indie success stories of the decade so far. Along the way, they’ve ticked off milestones ranging from a Number Two chart placing and Mercury Prize nomination for debut album ‘The Overload’, to a co-sign from Elton John who joined the band to guest on a string-laden reworking of album closer ‘100% Endurance’.

Yet, whilst the band’s trajectory continuously shot upwards, vocalist James Smith and his wife had also welcomed in a son. And it’s this duelling sense of responsibility and ambition, guilt, love, drive and everything in between that forms the narrative backbone of brilliantly exploratory second album ‘Where’s My Utopia’.
