The season finale showcases one of the most eminent examples of the symphonic poem, Ottorino Respighi 's majestic and brilliant The Fountains of Rome, that depicts Roman fountains at different times of the day. Opening the program is Mozart's Symphony No. 25 (think of the opening scene from the Academy Award-winning film Amadeus) and Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů's Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra with its wistful melodies, percolating rhythms and vivid orchestral colors.
