BOAT TICKETS WILL BE ON SALE DURING OPEN HOUSE AT THE EDUCATION CENTER INFORMATION BOOTH! This ticket is required for a boat ride on the Rhode River aboard H.M. Krentz departing at 12:15pm. Be sure to bring your printed ticket to the dock at least 15 minutes before boat departure or you may not be permitted to board. Please park your car at least 1 hour before your boat’s departure, allowing enough time to ride the shuttle buses to the Reed Education Center dock at SERC. We encourage those who have purchased boat tickets to also purchase an on-site parking pass (only available for sale online, not offered day of the event), allowing for timely travel to the dock.
About Open House:
On Saturday, May 20th, join the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) for our FREE, annual Open House.
SERC's 2,650 acres of forest, farmland, wetlands and shoreline host some of the longest-running environmental projects in the world. This year we are celebrating Bay Optimism! Hold a horseshoe crab. Talk to a scientist. Embark on a river cruise, or take a hay wagon through the forest. Discover environmental success stories that ecologists, policymakers and citizens like you make happen every day.FREE PARKING is available at FREE PARKING at Central Middle School/South River High School (221 and 201 Central Ave E, Edgewater, MD, 21037) where you will catch a shuttle bus to SERC.As an alternative to free parking at the school, a limited number of $12/car passes may be purchased online for parking available on SERC property (647 Contees Wharf Road, Edgewater, MD 21037). Note: Drivers with disabilities and handicap plate/placard may park on-site at SERC free. Online ticketing ends May 19th at 1pm.
