PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
The DuSable Museum is proud of its diverse holdings that number more than 15,000 pieces and include paintings, sculpture, print works and historical memorabilia. Special exhibitions, workshops and lectures are featured to highlight works by particular artists, historical events or collections on loan from individuals or institutions.

FREEDOM, RESISTANCE, AND THE JOURNEY TOWARD EQUALITY
Dedicated to the thousands of unsung lives given in the name of freedom and equality. This exhibition has been designed to take visitors on a journey through the African American experience addressing several key periods throughout history that many visitors have come to anticipate being a permanent fixture within a culturally specific institution such as the DuSable Museum of African American History. THE HAROLD WASHINGTON STORY
The Harold Washington Story, explores how Harold Washington became the first elected African American Mayor of Chicago in 1983 and chronicles his work as a public figure serving in the Illinois House of Representatives, the Illinois Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the City of Chicago.

 

TROUBLED WATERS: CHICAGO 1919 RACE RIOT
Chicago 1919 Race Riot focuses on the historical moment that led to the murder of Eugene Williams on July 27, 1919 and the eight-day aftermath of violence that altered the city forever.

 

SOUTH SIDE STORIES: THE ART AND INFLUENCE OF DR. MARGARET T. BURROUGHS, 1960-1980
The Art and Influence of Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs, 1960–1980. This exhibition explores influential Chicago artist and cultural leader Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs’s legacy as an artist, creator, activist and institution builder.
