Walter Bitner, Instructor

Join Richmond Symphony Director of Education & Community Engagement Walter Bitner for this deep dive into the music of our Symphony Series for the 2023-24 Season. Each class in this unique companion course will focus on the repertoire of the Symphony’s next Masterworks concert performance and feature a special guest with a critical role in the performance. Guests will include Music Director Valentina Peleggi, Associate Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin, and many more! Through recordings, images, scholarship, biographies, backstage stories, and discussion we will listen and engage more deeply with the music and the artists who bring it to life.    

       

Each class is 60-75 Minutes long and will take place on Zoom.     

Required Technology: Computer, tablet, or smartphone with microphone/camera + internet access. A zoom link will be emailed to you 48 hours before the class.

Music Director Valentina Peleggi conducts Brahms’ lyrical Second Symphony. And Francesca Dego is the soloist in the Violin Concerto of Ferruccio Busoni. No less a romantic than Brahms, who echoes throughout this concerto, Busoni was a singular voice, an iconoclast who composed music for the future. This centennial celebration may just be the moment time catches up to Busoni.
