Gather ‘round the Tree of Life for a bilingual retelling of two delightful Mexican folktales, "The Adventures of Tio Conejo" and "Medio Pollito." In “The Adventures of Tio Conejo,” meet Tio Conejo (Uncle Rabbit), a trickster character found in traditional stories popular in Venezuela, Mexico and other Latin American countries. Tio Conejo is on the run from hungry Coyote, who would like nothing more than to make rabbit soup for supper! Clever Tio Conejo won’t let that happen and finds ways to outsmart Coyote again and again. Tio Conejo discovers the ultimate refuge from Coyote... rocketing himself to the moon, where tradition says you can still see him to this day. “Medio Pollito” is the story of Medio Pollito, the little half-chicken born with one leg, one wing, one eye and half a beak. Bullied by his siblings for being different, Medio Pollito sets off for Mexico City, hoping to find his place in the world. Along the way, he befriends and rescues Water, Fire and Wind, who teach Medio Pollito that despite his shortcomings, he can find ways to help those in need. His new friends return the favor when Medio Pollito has a close call with a chef eager to make chicken soup! Over the past three decades, What If Puppets has captivated nearly 2 million people through its productions and educational programming. Audiences delight in the craftsmanship of the puppets, which range from glove puppets to marionettes to innovative shadow and object-based puppetry. They use humor and heart to present stories that connect to the complex social-emotional experiences of young audiences.
This show is recommended for grades PreK - 2.

Inspired by the Tony Award-nominated hit musical, “Million Dollar Quartet,” this holiday reimagining once again brings together soon-to-be legends Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley for a musical holiday celebration featuring a nostalgic string of chart-topping favorites.
This brand-new musical is inspired by the true story of the momentous homecoming in December 1956 of rock 'n' roll newcomers as they reflect on Christmases past and contemplate Christmases present and yet-to-come at a moment when no one knew if rock 'n' roll was a fad or a revolution.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
In her debut theatrical production, Ashli St. Armant presents “North,” a powerful new musical about a teenage boy and his mother who escape slavery in the deep south through the Underground Railroad.
“North” is a moving story that explores the multi-faceted reality of Black life during the antebellum period, and which aims to bring out the full range of experiences of freedom seekers. While acknowledging the realities of slavery, the narrative and original musical compositions by St. Armant explore themes of optimism, bravery, playfulness, wonder, suspense and mystery. The musical is intended for intergenerational audiences, ages 10 and up.
Inspired by true accounts of escape through the Underground Railroad, the story begins in Vacherie, Louisiana, in the middle of the 19th century where Lawrence, a precocious teenage boy, and his cautious mother, Minnie, are making the best of their lives, enslaved on Mr. Newsome’s plantation – the only reality they’ve ever known.
When Minnie makes a shocking discovery that Lawrence’s life is in jeopardy, they make the brave and difficult decision to run away that night. While navigating the complicated relationship between mother and son, and Lawrence’s emerging promise of manhood, the pair must also find their way through the intricate network of the Underground Railroad. Together, they discover more about the world and themselves than they ever would have had they stayed on the plantation. Will their new understandings and their bond be enough to carry them all the way to freedom? Relationships, grit, betrayal, ingenuity, finding joy and ultimately, humanity, drive the story.
St. Armant’s own ancestors were enslaved in Vacherie, and her research for this project led her down many paths where she discovered incredible connections to her own family and experiences. Many of those findings influenced the final story, including characters like Tham the Brave, a real-life leader in a Maroons community who had been enslaved on the same plantation as St. Armant’s family members in the 1780s. The set design and the song “Oh What These Trees Have Seen” come from her personal experience visiting the area where this plantation was located.
This show is presented in collaboration with the Kansas Studies Institute. It is intended for ages 10 and up.
