Join Richmond Symphony Director of Education & Community Engagement Walter Bitner for this deep dive into the music of our Symphony Series for the 2024-25 Season. Each class in this unique companion course will focus on the repertoire of the Symphony’s next Masterworks concert performance and feature a special guest with a critical role in the performance. Guests will include Music Director Valentina Peleggi, Associate Conductor Hae Lee, and many more! Through recordings, images, scholarship, biographies, backstage stories, and discussion we will listen and engage more deeply with the music and the artists who bring it to life.
Each class is 60-75 Minutes long and will take place on Zoom.
Required Technology: Computer, tablet, or smartphone with microphone/camera + internet access. A zoom link will be emailed to you 48 hours before the class.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Earworms, by Canada’s Vivian Fung, is a lighthearted mashup of music’s most memorable melodies, even daring to respond to Charles Ives’ “Unanswered Question.” Michael Sachs is one of classical’s foremost trumpet masters and jazz trumpet master Wynton Marsalis composed his Trumpet Concerto expressly for him. The two styles meet in a mesmerizing fusion. Schumann’s Second Symphony can be heard as the symphonic bridge across the Romantic age. Influenced by Beethoven and Schubert, it would come to influence Johannes Brahms.Anna Duczmal-Mroz, conductor
