    PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION

    Join Richmond Symphony Director of Education & Community Engagement Walter Bitner for this deep dive into the music of our Symphony Series for the 2024-25 Season. Each class in this unique companion course will focus on the repertoire of the Symphony’s next Masterworks concert performance and feature a special guest with a critical role in the performance. Guests will include Music Director Valentina Peleggi, Associate Conductor Hae Lee, and many more! Through recordings, images, scholarship, biographies, backstage stories, and discussion we will listen and engage more deeply with the music and the artists who bring it to life.    


           


    Each class is 60-75 Minutes long and will take place on Zoom.     


    Required Technology: Computer, tablet, or smartphone with microphone/camera + internet access. A zoom link will be emailed to you 48 hours before the class.

    “Soulful and immaculate,” raves The Guardian of London of James Ehnes, who joins Valentina Peleggi and the Richmond Symphony for Brahms’ romantic Violin Concerto.  Carlos Simon is one of today’s most influential composers and activists. His meditation on Beethoven, Fate Now Conquers is music that “brightens up programs with sheen and sensitivity.”  (The Washington Post)  Dvořák’s lyrical, loving hymn to nature, the verdant Eighth Symphony brings the program to a joyous close.
