Backstretch Tour

Walk through Keeneland’s Stable Area – commonly called the “backstretch” -- and see activities that occur every day – from a racehorse being bathed and walked to receiving new shoes. Other tour stops include the main track and training track, Racing Office and Sales Pavilion.

A limited number of dates and maximum of 5 tickets are available for this exclusive experience. This tour is for ages 13+ only. Tickets must be purchased in advance online for $35 per person (does not include General Admission on race days). This tour lasts for 1.5 hours and largely takes place outside.

 

Keeneland will observe a shutdown week from June 27 – July 4.  At that time, the Keeneland Library will be closed and no official Keeneland Tours will be offered. During this time, visitors can download a walking map.

Guests are encouraged to book tours in advance, as tickets will sell out.

Health and Safety

The safety of our guests, horsemen and employees is of the utmost priority for Keeneland. Keeneland follows the health and safety guidance of the CDC and state government to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  Sanitation measures throughout the grounds have been increased. Guests, horsemen and employees who are not feeling well are expected to stay home.

For the safety of our horses and patrons, attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  Additionally, pets are not permitted on tour; only trained service animals will be permitted inside the gates.

Tour Information

• This tour is offered throughout the year at Keeneland, days vary upon the season. 
• Tickets must be purchased in advance online for $35 per person; children 12 and under are free but still require a child ticket.
• The tour lasts for just over 1 hour and largely takes place outside. For your comfort, wear appropriate shoes for walking, standing and climbing stairs.
• Tours take place rain or shine, so please dress for the weather. Patrons are encouraged to bring bottled water on warm weather days.
• Umbrellas are prohibited for the safety of the Thoroughbreds and riders on the track. In the event of rain, we suggest bringing ponchos and rain boots.
• All guests must check in at least 15 minutes prior to tour time at the Welcome Center, located adjacent to the Grandstand South entrance located at the top of parking row 7.

Private Tours
