PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Please join the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra as they present orchestral works that are old friends, along with some new acquaintances! We welcome viola soloist George Taylor in performances of the music of Georg Philipp Telemann and Adolphus Hailstork. As bookends for this program, the BSO will play two Nordic favorites: the overture from Carl Nielsen's comic opera, Maskarade, and the beloved Second Symphony of Jean Sibelius. Come and celebrate making new musical friends and rekindling old flames!

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Can a Bloomington Symphony Orchestra season be complete without a visit to the soloist's mark onstage from our wonderful concertmaster, Michael Sutton? Michael is happy to meet the challenge of playing a violin concerto, one that is close to his heart, by Dimitri Kabalevsky. To warm you up, the BSO will start the program with an overture from the comic opera "Colas Breugnon", by the same composer. After intermission, we will ask you to settle in and enjoy a perennial favorite - the Fourth Symphony of Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
There are certain works in the orchestral repertory that are hallmarks of accomplishment for any orchestra, and Mahler's Fifth Symphony in C# minor is chief among them. A somber trumpet call begins the proceedings that eventually give way to a Viennese Waltz, a sweet Adagietto, and a merry fugue that brings the grand symphony to a triumphant close. There are immense technical challenges, musical heights to scale, and some moments of unrivaled tenderness to challenge your favorite orchestra.

We will also feature the grand prize winner of the MNSOTA Mary West Solo Competition on this program. Don't miss the concert that many will speak about for quite some time to come!
