PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
The Barbary Coast Band was first organized in 1967 to perform at Jimmy’s On the Levee” in downtown St Paul where they played for standing room only for over 5 years. From there they went on to perform at the Minnesota State Fair, Paddlewheel Boats on the Mississippi River, Diamond Jim’s and many corporate events.
As most of the band members had full time careers and families, their music was played as an avocation and part time but managed to do many performances from 1972 to present. It was in 1984 that the band decided to do Dixieland church services and regularly do over 40 Sundays a year with this musical ministry.
In 2000, Dick Petersen retired from the insurance business and devoted his full time to the promotion of the Barbary Coast Dixieland Show Band. From there the band started to tour the nation with their show and have been busy with performances including many jazz festivals and church services ever since.
In 2001, the band was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame joining the likes of Judy Garland and Bob Dylan to name a few.
Their music is lively, exciting and it is hard to keep your toes from tappin’. The musicians love to entertain and it is very obvious they enjoy each other’s talent and personalities. The band wants you to come away with a big smile on your face.
The band will be performing their last shows throughout 2018 after 51 years.
