Do you want to enter the world of indigo dreams? Come and learn the beautiful and ancient Japanese resist-dyeing technique known as Shibori. In this class you will learn the basics of creating an indigo dye-bath using pre-reduced indigo crystals and Shibori techniques to generate unique patterns and designs to dye four rad napkins and your choice of either tote bag or pillow case. Each piece will be unique and unexpected and use four different patterns/ styles, so you’ll learn several styles and methods. You will use folded, tied, and bound resist techniques to create your beautiful indigo pieces. This class will be a great starter class to get you going, as well we will expand to offer more shibori projects classes in the future.
Supplies Needed: None, all will be provided. Make sure to wear something that you don’t mind getting a little messy in or BYO apron.
Instructor Bio: A San Francisco native who spent her formative years in Petaluma, Elizabeth Mikutowicz was first exposed to natural dying processes and shibori by her textile artist mother. But it was her participation in the very first Workshop indigo and shibori dying class that sealed her love of shibori A true WorkshopSF success story, Elizabeth left class and quickly went on to dye every textile in her house! Fast forward a couple years, and now Elizabeth has launched her own shibori line, Liz + Luna Design https://www.lizandlunadesign.com/, and instructs the shibori and indigo dying class at Workshop. The student has truly become the teacher!
