Now that you have a little experience on the machine by taking Sewing 101 or Sewing Bootcamp, you can delve even deeper into magical land of sewing knits! This class will demystify the process of cutting out and sewing stretchy knit fabric to create a sexy pair of leggings for wearing to yoga, dance or under a cute dress! You will learn about knit grain lines, the difference between two-way and four-way stretch fabric, and how to sew knit in an easy, competent way. You will also create casings for an elastic waistband and do a simple hem. You will leave with your own leggings pattern so you can go home and keep creating your own custom leggings with all of the fun knits you can find! This is a great knit foundation class that can lead you into sewing knit skirts, dresses, and even bikinis!
Teacher Bio:Crystal Hermann has been sewing and art teacher for school aged kids throughout San Francisco for the past ten years. She even taught middle school students to make skinny jeans and backpacks! With her young students she shares a love for glitter, rainbows and unicorns. Outside of the classroom she spends her time painting murals, drawing, biking, dancing and doing yoga in homemade leggings. She graduated from CCA’s fashion department in 2004 and has been sewing up a storm ever since. She even won a live “project runway” style speed sewing competition called Fashion Feud. She believes that sewing is a skill, not a talent and anyone can master it!
Supplies needed: None! But feel free to bring 1 1/3 yard of 4 way stretch knit fabric if you have a specific pattern/style you"d prefer!
