The Civic Square of Charleston, at the corner of Broad and Meeting Streets, was the main land entrance to the walled city. Once the walls began to come down in the 1720s, it was decided that at each corner, the most important buildings would be built. South from the Four Corners of Law there is a great range of architecture along Broad Street with a pleasing mix of historic commercial spaces, residences, and public buildings. The American Planning Association has included it on its list of “Great Streets.” This tour includes four interiors and is designed to move at a faster pace in order to better compare and contrast the diverse architecture.
