“They have the pristine technique but none of the rigidity that comes with that kind of training… They are both humble and sparklingly present.” –Siobahn Burke, The New York Times
From Havana, Cuba, Malpaso is a charismatic new force in contemporary dance. The dancers deliver power, passion, and excellent technique. For their Richmond performance Malpaso will perform a number of works including a current work by the prolific and impressive guest choreographer Trey McIntre called “Under Fire,” which is set to music by the Boise-based singer/songwriter Grandma Kelsey. Malpaso’s program will also include a piece by artistic director Osnel Delgado, “Despedida/Farewell,” performed live by Grammy®-winning composer Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble.
Join The Modlin Center for the Arts for Modlin Arts After Words, a post-show question-and-answer session with Malpaso Dance Company of Cuba.
