VERY IMPORTANT: Western Editions has moved to the East Bay into an artist co-op, but don’t worry our workshops are just as awesome as ever. Bigger space, more sunshine, plenty of parking...what else could you ask for? MacArthur Bart is just over a mile up the road and there is a FREE Emery-go-round shuttle that runs every 10-15 minutes and will deliver you to our door, or pretty close at least. The Hollis Line drops you at 45th and Hollis or the Powell Line drops you at 40th and Hollis. We are now located at 1420 45th Street #40, Emeryville, CA 94608 in the big red garage roll up door! Please contact Western Editions directly at westerneditions@gmail.com if you have any further questions.
Monogrammed stationery. It’s the perfect way to add some class to your communication, celebrate that you can still do the written thing, and of course, prove to friends that you actually do know your own initials. In Freshman Letterpress: How to Make Monogrammed Stationery, instructors Taylor Reid and Erin Fong, owners of the newly minted Western Editions letterpress company, will show you how to create your own personalized letterpress notecards. You will use a vintage Vandercook Proofing Press and in house letter designs to letterpress your initials onto a thick 110 pound card stock. You will learn how to place a photopolymer plate onto a printing base and crank out your own set of cards. You will also cut envelope liners from vintage paper stock to customize to your liking. You will take home 10 personalized note cards, brown bag envelopes included. (Brown bags for your beers during class, not included.)
supplies needed: none
teacher bio: Western Editions is comprised of Erin Fong and Taylor Reid, two friends living in the Western Addition neighborhood (...get it?), who share a love for letterpress, design, giggles and all around cute-stuff. Erin and Taylor both learned printing in the same small tiny press in the upstairs library at the University of Nevada, Reno and lo and behold coincidentally landed in San Francisco at the same time years later. Taylor worked at a commercial letterpress print shop in SOHO and had a residency at The Center for the Book Arts in New York City. Erin currently works at Peter Koch Printers and John Demerritt Bookbinding. Both have done time at SFCB. Erin and Taylor keep it real by freelancing design and letterpress work, selling their wares at local shops and events, baking cupcakes and riding bikes to the ocean.
