Are you obsessed with becoming one of those ‘crazy plant people’, yet your forays into horticulture have left you in a graveyard of plant matter and a feeling that you’re the worst plant parent ever? Fear not! In Plant 101, we aim to uncomplicate the confusing world of plant care, and change your black thumb to a healthy green one! We’ll school you on how to properly care for a range of plant types, including tropicals, basic house plants, succulents, cactus plants, and air plants. We will also cover which plants will work best for your home, as well as soil basics, propagation methods, and healthy re-potting techniques. In addition, we will discuss how to use fertilization and organic rooting hormones to promote healthy plant growth.
Once we’ve filled your green mind with all of this plant knowledge, you’ll get your hands dirty with the following simple plant projects. First, using a wooden test tube holder and test tubes as your vessels, you will practice water-based propagation. Second, using a clay pot as your vessel, you will practice soil-based propagation. (NOTE: For all y’all who are new to the horticulture game, propagation is the process of creating new plants from seeds, cuttings, or other plant parts. Now you know!) Third, you will properly repot an existing plant into a medium size clay pot. You will have a variety of plant types from which to choose for your three projects. Each student will leave with three plant projects and an amazing plant care guide that covers all relevant class information. AND, if you have a plant that’s on its last leg (or last stem?), then feel free to snap some pictures and bring in for a little one-on-one plant revival advice!
